Yellowknife Fire Fighters serve 20,000 residents and major industries in both
rural and urban areas.
Yellowknife Fire Fighters became affiliated with the International
Association of Fire Fighters on December 10, 1982. The local originally
consisted of 9 members.
Our local represents 20 members; 4 Lieutenants, 16 Fire Fighters. These
members work out of 1 station providing Basic Trauma life support ambulance,
fire suppression and rescue services. Our emergency response members are
trained as fire fighters and are also Emergency Medical Technicians.
The alarms ring in the hall and we respond in the appropriate vehicles often
working as a team at vehicle collisions requiring extrication and EMS. The
same can be said at structure fires. Our Fire fighters can provide
suppression and rescue efforts, and transition into emergency medical care
without waiting for a separate service. Last year (2007) the Yellowknife
Fire Fighters responded to
3,711 calls.
A three-part series that examines some of the problems - and the

Yellowknife Professional FireFighters Association Local 2890 Toy Run 2007
On December 22, 2007, Members of The Yellowknife Professional FireFighters Association Local 2890 of the IAFF helped Old St. Nick with his Christmas deliveries by dropping off a few gifts at the Beaton household. After opening their gifts, Paul along with three of the four kids had an opportunity to have a look around Engine 7 and try on some of the bunker gear. Thank you to all of the members for supporting the Toy run along with the Fire Division for the use of Engine 7 for this special delivery. |
