Fyfe (41)
July 10, 1963 - March 21, 2005
Regretfully the IAFF Local 2890 is saddened but honored to
announce the Line-of-Duty Death of 18 year veteran, Brother Lt. Cyril Fyfe,
who succumbed to an injury he sustained while fighting a fire on March 17,
2005.
Cyril joined the YKFD as a volunteer in November 1987 and began his full
time career in April of 1989. Cyril accepted a promotion to Senior Fire
Fighter on July 1, 1997 and was promoted to Lieutenant, Platoon C on
September 6, 2002. Cyril was well respected by all his colleagues and peers
and will be sorely missed by his friends, family, colleagues, City of
Yellowknife residents, respective community and volunteer fire fighters and
all the Brothers and Sisters of the IAFF. Godspeed Cyril good buddy.
Cyril is survived by his children Jolene, Garrett and Colton; his partner
and soul mate Andrea and many other family members.
Kevin Olson (24)
January 27, 1981 - March 17, 2005
It is with great regret, shock and dismay that on March 17,
2005 we announced the death of Fire Fighter Kevin Olson of the Yellowknife
Fire Division and brother of IAFF Local 2890. Our hearts and prayers go out
to his family, friends acquaintances and to all of us here the YKFD who
are in a great state of mourning. No words can describe what we are all
feeling during this time of tragedy.
The only son to Brent and Susan Olson of Calgary Alberta; little brother to
Christina and Teri; Husband to Erica and uncle to Logan and Jake. Kevin was
an avid basketball player and Calgary Flames fan. He was a caring and
generous person that left a lasting impression on all he met. Kevin
graduated from the EST program at Fire ETC... in Vermillion, AB in 2003.
While there he received the Jason Lang Scholarship and a Lakeland College
Academic Excellence award. On March 7, 2005 he proudly accepted his first
position as a professional fire fighter with the YKFD, tragically, just a
short time later he lost his life fulfiling his dream.
The
International
Association of FireFighters Local 2890
(Yellowknife Firefighters) have
produced a Memorial T-Shirt to raise funds for a Memorial for our Fallen
Fighters
The cost of a T-Shirt is
$20.00 +($5.00 shipping and handling)
and all proceeds from the sale of
the Memorial T-Shirts will be placed in a fund for a Fallen Fighters
Memorial.
